As I write this on the second day of June, there have already been at least 6 sales, and the total dollar volume of those sales already exceeds the dollar volume of all of May. Additionally, 80 properties are currently listed as “under contract”, so I expect June sales numbers will be much improved over May.
More than half of the sales were in the Gunnison area; usually 60% of the sales are in the Crested Butte area. Gunnison has more local buyers, so that isn’t entirely surprising when travel to Gunnison county is limited and all hotels and short term rentals are currently closed.
March started off much like the previous two months of 2020, with plenty of real estate activity. By March 17th, the unexpected closure of all Vail resorts including Crested Butte indicated that the world was rapidly changing. Further stay at home orders followed in Gunnison County and real estate agents in Crested Butte and Gunnison are currently not allowed to have any face to face contact with buyers or sellers.
