Gunnison County has 3,239 square miles, and 78% of it is owned by the federal government- which means that hunting opportunities are plentiful. A former world-record bull was taken just West of Crested Butte way back in 1899- the rack is on display at the Chamber of Commerce building at the “4-way stop”. During fall, Gunnison and Crested Butte are alight with orange as hunters from across the country try their luck and skill. Several outfitters operate in the area. Many properties in the area have great hunting opportunities right outside the door. Contact your Crested Butte Real Estate Agent for more information. For more information about hunting in the area, visit the Department of Wildlife’s website.
