Almont, Colorado is located ten miles north of Gunnison and eighteen miles south of Crested Butte, where the East river meets the Taylor river to become the Gunnison river. If you’ve ever wondered why the nearby 3 Rivers Resort got its name, now you know. As you might guess, Almont is a river town, with rafting and fishing operations headquartered here. Almont Real Estate The fishing on the Taylor river is well known as a trout hotbed, with the fishing below the Taylor dam producing several Colorado record sized trout over the years.

Almont covers a wide area in terms of real estate listings. In addition to the area surrounding the town, the homes on Spring Creek are also included in the Almont area. This smaller creek also provides good fishing and homes with great river access. Wilder on the Taylor is a luxury home development five miles upriver from Almont. Finally, the homes in the Taylor Park area including the old mining town of Tincup are actually listed within the Almont area in our local MLS.

This can make home searches in Almont difficult because it isn’t always clear if a home is located in Almont, Spring creek, or closer to the Taylor reservoir. The Almont area is also home to some of Gunnison County’s best rock climbing near the resort of Harmel’s (located near the point where Spring Creek and the Taylor River meet). Harmel’s also serves as the starting point for one of the Crested Butte area’s best mountain bike rides, Doctor’s Park.
