Mount Crested Butte Real Estate

The town of Mount Crested Butte was incorporated in 1974 as the Crested Butte Ski Area continued to grow after opening in 1961. Located three miles away from the much older coal mining town of Crested Butte, the two towns are linked in many ways, including the free year round shuttle. As one might expect from a town that grew up surrounding a ski area, Mount Crested Butte retains a resort feel in a spectacular setting.mount crested butte real estate Near the base area, most properties are condos, hotels, or commercial real estate catering to visitors. Many ski in ski out opportunities are available in this area.

Farther from the base area, the residential neighborhoods of Mount Crested Butte wind their way up and down the mountain with jaw dropping views of the surrounding Elk Mountains. Some of those neighborhoods include Prospect, Gold Link, The Summit, Overlook, and Pitchfork. According to the 2010 census, Mount Crested Butte was home to roughly 800 year round residents, making it slightly smaller than Crested Butte.

Besides downhill skiing, Mount Crested Butte is also home to nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and other activities in the winter. One interesting fact: Mount Crested Butte is nearly always warmer than Crested Butte, due to temperature inversions that consistently keep wintertime overnight lows 10-20 degrees warmer than town. In the summertime, the hillsides come alive with wildflowers, and the outdoor activities switch to hiking and mountain biking. Mount Crested Butte’s ZIP code is 81225.
